Digital marketing strategy for a microfinance bank operating across emerging markets, growing social audience, traffic and conversion together.
Growing a Microfinance Bank's Audience Past 50,000 Followers
The challenge
FINCA Uganda Limited needed to build customer acquisition and financial product awareness for a microfinance bank serving customers across emerging markets, many of whom were coming online and encountering formal financial services for the first time. Growth had to happen without an unlimited budget, so every shilling of marketing spend had to be accountable.
My approach
I ran a full funnel digital marketing program rather than a single audience growth push. Content strategy was targeted at people genuinely interested in FINCA's products, not just broad reach, and digital campaigns were built around specific products and acquisition moments so each audience segment had a relevant reason to engage. Budget management and performance analytics ran across every platform and campaign, so spend could shift toward what was working within days rather than months. Search visibility and content optimization supported organic growth alongside the paid activity.
The results
The social audience grew by more than 50,000 followers, website traffic increased by 35%, and campaigns achieved an approximate 20% conversion rate from generated leads.
What I would tell another marketer
Audience growth for a financial brand only matters if it is the right audience. Growing past 50,000 followers meant less to me than the 20% conversion rate that came with it: proof the audience was made of people who actually wanted the product, not just people who liked a post.
