The challenge

dfcu Bank needed a consistent digital communication and social media strategy across six platforms: LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, while supporting the launch of digital banking products, loans and SME financial solutions. A quieter but more serious problem sat underneath all of it: a large share of visitors who reached the website were leaving almost immediately, at a bounce rate of 37%, before ever engaging with a product page.

My approach

I treated the bounce rate problem as a content and experience problem, not just a traffic problem.

Content planning was built around the questions customers actually had about loans, digital banking and SME solutions, rather than generic brand messaging. I reviewed the user experience on the pages driving the most paid and organic traffic, fixing the mismatches between what an ad promised and what the landing page actually delivered. Every one of the six platforms carried consistent, platform appropriate content, so each channel supported the same campaigns without duplicating a single creative across all six. Analytics review was ongoing rather than monthly, which meant underperforming pages and campaigns got caught and fixed early.

The results

Bounce rate fell from 37% to approximately 5.7%. The same period saw social engagement rise by 22% and more than 2,000 qualified leads generated through targeted digital campaigns for the bank's loan, digital banking and SME product lines.

What I would tell another marketer

For a regulated brand like a bank, trust is won or lost in seconds. A visitor who lands on a page and leaves immediately is not really a traffic problem: it is a signal that the experience did not match the promise. Fixing that mismatch moved the numbers more than any amount of extra ad spend would have.
